Reading around the web, there are suggestions of 4-6 months all the way down to 1 month to get in for your wedding gown alterations.
I recommend this for the following reasons. . . .
Any GOOD wedding seamstress will be booking out well in advance as their time will fill quickly. Waiting too long can really lower your chances of getting in with someone that is real skilled AND specializes in bridal alterations.
Avoid Rush Fees! Rush fees cover the "extra" work and time that may be needed to do the work and get it back to you in time. Most wedding seamstresses will require AT LEAST 12 weeks to avoid rush charges. Note: Bridal stores that do alterations will do the same thing whether they explicitly tell you the extra costs or just roll it into the overall service fee.
What if something goes wrong with your bridal alterations? While this is not common, people are people and can make mistakes. In addition, some brides may also discover closer to the wedding unforeseen events such as losing/gaining weight or becoming pregnant. It is strongly advised that you let your seamstress know if you are prone to losing or gaining weight under stress.
