Prices vary from gown to gown and the work involved. Most brides invest, on average, $450.00-$700.00. I have listed a general price range for the most common alterations needed.
$175-$400
The bottom of your gown will almost always need to be shortened. The hem is many times much more complicated than it looks. The more layers it has, the more you will be charged. Hem lace around the bottom will also increase the price. If the bottom is beaded, you can expect to pay even more.
$85-$275
If you have a train, a bustle is needed. There are different types of bustles. It is best to decide on a bustle that goes best with the style of your dress. The longer the train and the difficulty of the bustle determines the price.
$50-$200
Many times brides will need the dress taken in at the sides. The dress can always be made smaller. However, if the dress is too small, there could be problems making it bigger. Lace and beading will increase the cost of taking in the sides. Price is determined by the difficulty NOT the amount that needs to be taken in.
$75-250
Sleeves and/or straps can usually be added to any style wedding gown. Price is determined by the style chosen and the work involved.
$100-$2000
Many times brides want to change their wedding dress from its original design to fit their style or satisfy religious requirements. The price for any custom changes depends on the change, the fabric (if needed), and the work involved.
$1200-$5000 (or higher)
The cost depends on the style and fabrics you choose to create your unique gown.
